The Amandla Development Solar Academy is a forward-looking initiative. It is designed to equip young people in and around Philippi with practical, market-relevant skills in the growing renewable energy sector. Through training in areas such as solar maintenance, compliance, and workplace readiness, the Academy aims to unlock both entrepreneurship pathways and employment opportunities for youth. This directly responds to the challenge of high youth unemployment, ensuring that every young person is supported to become employable active citizens, empowering them to live to their fullest potential while contributing meaningfully to their communities and the economy.
Since its launch, the Amandla Development Solar Academy has successfully graduated two cohorts of young people, marking an important milestone in building pathways to opportunity for Philippi’s youth. These cohorts have not only gained foundational technical and workplace skills, but have also demonstrated resilience and commitment to their personal growth. Notably, seven graduates from the second cohort have progressed to the next phase of their training through a partnership with Green Solar Academy Cape Town, further deepening their expertise and strengthening their prospects for meaningful employment and entrepreneurship in the renewable energy sector.
